Dispatch, a Dutch battery developer, is going to construct the Netherlands’ largest stand-alone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the port area of Dordrecht. The system will be used for grid stabilization by storing excess energy from renewable sources. The battery, consisting of 144 Fluence cubes will be located on a 6000m² site.
The battery storage facility in Moerdijk is the second battery storage facility to be built by RWE in the Netherlands: the company started construction of a battery storage facility in Eemshaven at the beginning of the year with an installed capacity of 35 MW and a storage capacity of 41 MWh.

The Germany-headquartered company announced the start of construction on the BESS at its Eemshaven biomass and gas power plant complex, near Groningen, last week (8 February).
The company has now started construction of its first utility-scale Dutch battery storage project with an installed power capacity of 35 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 41 megawatt-hours (MWh).
A total of 110 lithium-ion battery racks will be installed at RWE’s Eemshaven power plant on an area of around 3,000 square metres. The storage system is planned to supply control energy and to operate in wholesale markets as of 2025.
To achieve its renewable energy targets, reports in 2021 indicate that the Netherlands will need to install between 29 and 54 gigawatts (GW) of energy storage capacity by 2050. Storage with efficient management systems and digital controls is a crucial element of a reliable, flexible and affordable energy system.
The smart washing machine calculates its predicted power consumption for each cycle and sends it to the energy computer; it suggests the optimal start time through communication to the project IT system back to the user who can accept this smart delay and also force her/his constraint for the end time of the washing cycle.
